Relocation Made Simple
Your Local Guide Before You Even Arrive
Moving to a new metro area means a lot of unknowns. I’ll help you turn them into clear choices, one step at a time.
Explore the Area
Get to Know Greater Houston
From the city’s urban core to master-planned suburbs, each part of the region offers a different mix of homes, commutes, and amenities.
What to Know
What to Know About Living Here
A few things newcomers ask about most, in plain language.

How’s the commute?
Greater Houston is a driving region, connected by I-10, I-69/US-59, Beltway 8, the Westpark Tollway, and the Grand Parkway. Drive times change a lot by time of day, so I suggest test-driving your commute at rush hour before choosing an area.
What about schools?
The area is served by several independent school districts, and attendance zones don’t always follow city lines. Research districts and campuses directly through their websites and the Texas Education Agency, and confirm the zoned schools for any specific address.
What’s the cost of living like?
Texas has no state income tax, but property taxes tend to be higher than many states and vary by location. When comparing homes, look at the full monthly picture, including taxes, insurance, utilities, and any HOA dues, not just the price.
Weather & flood awareness
Expect hot, humid summers, mild winters, and a hurricane season from June through November. For every home, we’ll review FEMA flood maps, the seller’s disclosure, and flood insurance quotes so you can make an informed decision.
Things to do
Houston’s Museum District and Theater District, pro sports, a huge food scene, bayou trails, and suburban parks and lakes. Many master-planned communities also have their own pools, trails, and events.
HOAs & MUDs, explained
Many neighborhoods have an HOA that maintains amenities and enforces community rules. Many suburban areas are also in a MUD (Municipal Utility District), which funds water, sewer, and drainage and appears as part of your property tax bill. I’ll help you find both for every home.

Relocation FAQs
Answers to Common Relocation Questions
Can I buy a home in Houston before I move?
Yes. Many relocating buyers do much of their search remotely using video tours and digital documents, then visit for a final look or close remotely where the title company allows. I’ll keep you updated at every step.
Should I rent first or buy right away?
It depends on your timeline and how well you know the area. Renting first gives you time to explore, while buying right away avoids moving twice. I can help with either path and walk you through the trade-offs for your situation.
How do I choose the right area when I don’t know Houston?
Start with your commute, budget, and the home features you want. I’ll suggest areas that match, share video drives of the neighborhoods, and help you plan visits. Do your own research on schools, services, and anything else that matters to you so you feel confident in the choice.
Does my company’s relocation package affect the process?
It can. Some employer programs have preferred providers, specific paperwork, or deadlines. Share the details with me early and I’ll work with your relocation coordinator to keep everything in line with the program.
What extra costs should I plan for in Texas?
Beyond the price and mortgage payment, plan for property taxes, homeowners insurance, flood insurance where needed, HOA dues, and any MUD taxes. Your lender and insurance agent can give you exact numbers for a specific home.
How long does a relocation home search usually take?
It varies with your timeline, the market, and how flexible your criteria are, anywhere from a few weeks to a few months. Reaching out early gives us more time to plan around your start date.
